A workbench where Terra Hills tests home and garden products
Our story

We test it so your home doesn't have to be the experiment.

Terra Hills is a hands-on review team obsessed with healthy living at home — the home, the garden and the everyday spaces around them — and the gear that keeps them thriving.

eco Why we exist

Real answers from gear that's actually been used

Shopping for your health, home and garden is overwhelming. Every product claims to be the best, spec sheets all blur together, and the gear is expensive enough that a wrong choice really stings.

We started Terra Hills to do the boring, hands-on work for you: buying products at retail, living with them through real seasons, and reporting back on what actually held up.

Evan Mercer

Founder & Lead Reviewer

Evan builds software for a living and runs Terra Hills from his home — a live-in test lab where pool cleaners run laps in the backyard, security sensors line every door and the kitchen counter rotates through more espresso machines than any one person should own. He's finished an ultramarathon, a half Ironman, and dozens of triathlons and half marathons, which is also why you'll find him obsessing over heart-rate zones, recovery scores and whichever running shoe survives his weekly trail mileage. Everything reviewed on this site gets bought at retail and lived with — usually by Evan, usually for far longer than his family would prefer.

What we stand for

Principles we don't bend

science

Real-world testing

We use products the way you will — across full seasons, in actual homes and gardens.

schedule

Long-term by default

Weeks, months, sometimes years with a product — because durability only shows up over time.

visibility

Total transparency

We explain how we test and why a product won or lost, so you can judge for yourself.

groups

Reader-led

What we test next is shaped by the questions and projects our readers bring us.

How we test

Our review process

1

Research & shortlist

We map the market for each category, weigh reader demand, and shortlist the products worth serious testing.

2

Buy & live with it

We source products at retail and put them to work for weeks or whole seasons — setup headaches and all.

3

Measure & compare

Performance, durability, ease of use and value are scored head-to-head against the closest rivals.

4

Publish & revisit

We write it up with clear pros, cons and a verdict — then update as new models and long-term issues surface.
